- Do you have Eftpos?
Yes we do have Eftpos and it can be used at the boat ramps, no cash required. Receipts are emailed upon payment completion.
- Where are you based?
We are based in Urangan Marina, Hervey Bay and can deliver our boats to any boat ramp for launch and retrieval within the Hervey Bay region. Travel fees apply to some ramps, you will be notified upon booking.
- Do I need a boat licence?
No, we have unlicensed boats available for those without marine licenses. For hire of our 30hp and 140hp vessels, an Marine Licence is required and must be sighted on the day of hire. Some overseas licences will be accepted. Identification is required for all hires and the hirer/skipper must be over 18 years old.
- Who is responsible for the boat?
The hirer/skipper, licensed or unlicensed, who signed the Hire Agreement form is responsible for the boat and the passengers he/she has onboard.
- Where can the licenced boat travel to?
Partially smooth and smooth waters. Operation is confined to the partially smooth water limits of Burrum Heads to River Heads and across to Fraser Island, no higher than Moon Point. Operational zoning maps are provided upon hire.
- Where can the unlicenced boat travel to?
Smooth waters up to 10 knots. Operation is confined to the smooth water limits of Burrum Heads to River Heads within .5nm offshore. Operational zoning maps are provided upon hire.
- What safety equipment is on board?
All safety gear is supplied by Blue Sky Boat Hire as required by Queensland Maritime Safety Regulations.
- Will the boat sink?
No, our boats are compliant to Queensland standards and have Positive Level Flotation design and construction making them virtually unsinkable.
- Does the boat come with fuel?
Our 3.9m tinny's and 4.2m smartwave vessels all come with fuel included in hire fees and you are not required to refuel the tank. Fuel is not included in the hire fees for the pontoon boat, these are additional and to be paid upon return of hire.
- What fishing gear is included with hire?
Fishing rods and basic tackle are included with hire of any vessel upon request, as well as hand reels, bait board, lading net and esky for no additional fee.
- Who cleans the boat?
As our service is ‘walk on, walk off’, the hirer/skipper is not required to wash the boat or flush the engine. However, it is a requirement that all rubbish, food and bait items be disposed of by the hirer/skipper.
- Are the boats inspected before and after hire?
Yes the boats are inspected before and after every hire by a representative of Blue Sky Boat Hire and all inspections are documented.
- What hours does day hire refer to?
All hires can start as early as 6.30am. All vessels are required to be returned by no later than 4.00pm for final inspection, refueling and cleaning.
- What insurance cover does the Blue Sky Boat Hire have?
Our boats and kayaks are covered by comprehensive commercial insurance and public liability marine insurance. For partially smooth and smooth water zones, during daylight hours only. In the event of an incident or accident, an excess fee of $500 will be charged and payable on the day by the hirer/skipper.
- Is anywhere off limits?
Unlicenced vessels are restricted to smooth waters only and the unlicenced vessels can go into partially smooth waters but no further than Blue Sky's Designated Operational Areas. Maps are provided upon hire clearly stating all boundaries. Conservations zones apply to the waters of Hervey Bay - The Great Sandy Strait Marine Park. These zones and rules are enforced by law. Including go slow zones, no go zones, no fishing zones and fishing hooks/rods limit zones. It is the sole responsibility of the hirer/skipper to ensure correct conduct is upheld throughout hire.
